Good evening,

I’ve decided to start covering the All Core Developers Testing (ACDT) calls as part of the ACD After Hours series. It was a rather last-minute decision, so I am still determining the best format to cover these ACD calls. (Your feedback on this is appreciated!)

For now, I’m starting with one post that combines the summary and takeaways from the ACDT calls, as these calls tend to be shorter and packed with fewer updates than the All Core Developers Execution (ACDE) and All Core Developers Consensus (ACDC) calls.

Paid subscribers will have full access to both ACDT call minutes and insights, whereas free subscribers will need to upgrade their subscriptions to read the second half of these posts.

If you haven’t already, I hope you consider upgrading for full access. :)

Today, on ACDT #40, Ethereum developers shared updates from their week-long meetup in Berlin. They also agreed to make the necessary preparations to raise the block gas limit by 25%.

Below is my full call summary and takeaways for All Core Developers Testing (ACDT) call #40.

Yours truly,

Christine D. Kim

Fusaka:

  • Developers addressed all pending specification issues and pull requests related to Fusaka during their in-person gathering in Berlin last week.

  • They are testing the latest version of Fusaka on a newly launched devnet called Berlinterop Devnet #2.

Block Gas Limit Increase:

  • Nethermind, Reth, and Erigon client teams stated that they are comfortable with raising the block gas limit on Ethereum from 36m to 45m gas.

  • The Geth team has one fix pending for their software that will enable them to also support a 45m gas limit.

History Expiry:

  • EL client teams should begin pruning block history data from before the Merge upgrade over the next few weeks. Teams can do so asynchronously.

  • The Ethereum Foundation (EF) will publish a blog post notifying users about this change in client behavior.

  • Developers are continuing to discuss paths forward for pruning history after the Merge upgrade and long-term storage options for expired history, such as the Portal Network.

  • Geth developer Matt Garnett said he will organize a community call to discuss the future of Portal later this week or early next week.

Editor’s note: Some quotes featured in this section have been edited slightly for grammar and clarity.

  1. Client teams feel confident about increasing the block gas limit to 45 million, but beyond that, serious issues remain.
